It was based on the Sherman tank chassis but with less armor and a more powerful gun. As a result, bythe US Army’s M10 battalions were usually deployed in support of US infantry divisions to conduct direct-fire support.

As described in the beginning of the book, both of these vehicles ended up being employed in combat differently than anticipated when they were designed and assaklt fielded.
I thought the descriptions of the vehicles and their employment were the best parts of this book. The Combat chapter near the end of the book suffers from being an operational One of the latest installments in the Osprey Duel series, this book provides a good summary of the M10 tank destroyer and the StuG III assault gun.
The Combat chapter near the end of the book suffers from being an operational description of the fighting around Aachen in which M10s and StuGs were involved, but really provides no small-scale description of these vehicles and their crews facing each other in combat.
As a result, while good, I don’t consider this particular book to be one of the best in the Duel series. I enjoyed it and my knowledge increased because of it, but I would’ve preferred a dedicated text of the M The stug and the M10 are not famous rivals, as the combat scenario points out, but they did perform similar roles, although they were employed differently.
