Should I be watering the soil as well as putting water in the PVC pipe? Michelle, I live in Phoenix and yes I do water the soil since it is so dang hot here.
Water in the pipe does keep them hydrated a heck of a lot longer than in the regular beds. I hope this helps! What a great idea thank you.

I am in Arizona and we can grow tomatoes, peppers year round in them! Shannan, sorry for the late reply, this one slide by me. Our earth boxes are on the East side and jet all the morning sun and shade in the afternoon here in Goodyear Arizona. That afternoon is a scorcher and the plants do great over there.

Everything we plant in the earth boxes we build grows like crazy! Are there any BPA concerns using plastics?
Everybody is talking about how harmful they are and how everybody is contaminated with the stuff. I myself think plastics are easy but do we need the health concern? Is there a more organic option? I am not an expert on the environment at all, but Nurseries sell plants and grow dit their plants in plastic buckets and recycle them without problems that I have heard about. They have been great for us as well!
The tomato and pepper plants have huge strong stalks year round here!
